Magazine front cover - Learner response
Create a new blogpost called 'Magazine cover learner response' and complete the following tasks:
1) Add your finished magazine cover as a JPEG image.
2) Type up your feedback from your teacher. If you've received this by email, you can copy and paste it across - WWW and EBIs. You don't need to include a mark or grade if you don't want to.
WWW: This is a good quality cover that captures the feel of Dog World magazine effectively. I totally agree with your evaluation – it isn’t easy to identify which of the three magazine covers is yours which shows what a good job you have done in matching the conventions. It’s clear that you have put the research and planning into this production and that is reflected in the final product.
EBI: There are two factors that are keeping you out of the top level here. Firstly, the magazine you have chosen to replicate is quite basic in terms of page design, typography use and cover lines. In terms of a recreation task it is impressive but for your coursework I think you’ll need to be a bit more creative to break into the very top level (13-15 marks or A/A*). Secondly, the central image is really nicely constructed but just out of focus? With this kind of image you want sharp focus on the eyes and I think the focus is more on the blades of grass at the front of the picture.
3) Consider your mark against the mark scheme above. What are the strengths of your production based on the the mark scheme? Think about magazine cover conventions and the media language techniques you have used to communicate with your audience (e.g. mise-en-scene, camera shot etc.)
-Good application of knowledge and understanding media language, demonstrated by the frequently appropriate but inconsistently
4) Look at the mark scheme again. What can you do to move your mark higher and, if required, move up a level?
-Apply more knowledge and understanding of media language in order to get more marks and reach the next level.
5) What would be one piece of advice you would give a student about to start the same magazine cover project you have just completed?
